The Centre for European Constitutional Law, Fair Trials and partners from across the EU will present the findings of our 2-year long research, “A Measure of Last Resort? The Practice of Pre-Trial Detention Decision-Making in the EU,” and will launch the publication of our regional report based on data from 10 EU Member States. The event, hosted by MEP Birgit Sippel, will be held on 26 May, 9:00-11:00 am in the European Parliament at the Altiero Spinelli Building, AIE-1.

The decision of the UK electorate to vote in the 23 June 2016 referendum in favour of the UK leaving the EU, and the subsequent decision of the UK government to invoke Article 50 TEU, called into question the mainstream assumptions on the EU as the end-point of the evolution of European states. For the first time, following a lengthy historical process of continuous accessions and membership growth, the EU is faced with the decision of one of the largest and most important members of the EU to leave it.
